Jo qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from the University of East London in 1996. She worked in London after graduating, specialising in Neurology since 1999. She worked for two years at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery before joining the now CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accredited National Spinal Injuries Centre Stoke Mandeville in 2002; where she continues to practice in adult spinal injuries rehabilitation.

Jo has also undertaken numerous courses to continue developing and broadening her knowledge and clinical skills; including a Masters module on Injection Therapy using Botulinum Toxin, electrical stimulation and Bobath courses.

​

Jo has a specialist interest in spasticity management, splinting, pain management and incomplete spinal cord injury and is keen to stay abreast of rehabilitation developments to enhance recovery and function, aiming to implement the latest evidence into her practice.

Jo has co-authored two book chapters on the assessment and treatment of spinal cord injuries. She runs a ‘Splinting in Neurology’ course and educates Physiotherapists at the National Spinal Injuries Centre in splinting and physiotherapy management of adults with spinal cord injury. Joanna organises and lectures on the Bridging the Gap course – ‘Physiotherapy Management of Complete Spinal Cord Injury’; which is a two module course presented by the Multi-disciplinary Team at Stoke Mandeville.

Jo also works as an Expert Witness within the field of Spinal Cord Injury.

 

Jo lives near to Berkhamsted. She has 3 children and enjoys cycling and staying fit.
